Annual exchange between China-Russia

Seven Chinese warships are in the Sea of Japan with a fleet of Russian vessels to participate in a nine-day naval exercise. The exercise Joint Sea-2015 (II) will take place from Thursday through to next Friday in the Peter the Great Gulf, waters off Clerk Cape, and in and above the Sea of Japan.

Earlier reports said the navies would simulate anti-submarine combat, air defense and other relevant missions. A joint beach landing of troops is also planned. Yan Zhengming, the vice chief of staff of the North China Sea Fleet -- says the drill is organized according to an annual exchange plan between the two navies. Yan says the exercise isn't targeting any third party and has nothing to do with the regional status-quo.
