Although she was confined to a wheelchair because of illness for more than 20 years, Ao Jihong did not waste away her life and dreams. After she published a collection the Rainbow of Heart, she wrote a great deal of prose and reportage. She even went to the frontier troops stationed near the Ergun River in her wheelchair to experience military life there and wrote a book of reports Military Spirit along Border River.

　　The troops she covered are stationed along the Ergun River with sentry posts being far apart from each other. The servicemen were deeply moved when they saw a crippled woman on wheel chair moved from one sentry to another and used her notebook computer to write at night with a foot badly scalded by hot water. They realize that beyond their quiet military sentry posts there are people who have loving affections for their fighters defending the country's borderlines. They also felt that the woman's love for her work resembled their own love for the national defense. They began to tell her moving stories and exciting adventures, philosophical topics about their life and even their love stories and secret personal stories at their frontier posts. Therefore the image of each man stationed along the River was no longer uniform to Ao Jilvong. Each of the brave team members is an individual with his own, unique emotion, experience, wisdom and personality.

　　She says that the works are the most convincing part of an author. Military Spirit Along Brdoer River is not a book created by suspense about heroes' personality and fate. It is a book about the author's own view of these men and their love for their work at the frontier defense. Her language in the book is fascinating and the men she describes have dreams about their future and their pursuit.
