HAIKOU, January 16 (ChinaMil) -- The U.S.- China Joint Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Exercise & 10th Disaster Management Exchange kicked off in Haikou city, south China's Hainan province, on Friday. Maj.Gen. Wang Junli, deputy chief of staff of the Guangzhou Military Area Command (MAC) of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), and Maj. Gen. Edward Dorman, commanding general of the 8th Theater Sustainment Command of the U.S. Army Pacific (USARPAC), attended the opening ceremony.
This joint exercise is to be conducted under the background of a strong typhoon hitting a fictional third country. A total of 139 professionals from the Chinese and the US armies are dispatched to carry out major rescue operations. The table top exchange and practical field exchange run through the whole exercise.
