ZHOUSHAN, January 19 (ChinaMil) -- The naming and flag-giving ceremony for the "Huanggang" warship, a new guided missile frigate, was held at a naval port in Zhoushan city in east China’s Zhejiang province on the morning of January 16, 2015, marking the ship has been officially commissioned to the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLAN).

Shen Hao, deputy commander of the East China Sea Fleet of the PLAN, gave the military flag and issued the naming certificate to the warship.

The officers and men have been able to manipulate and operate the equipment skillfully, and passed various actual operation appraisals satisfactorily based on all the previous trial runs, said Yan Hualiang, captain of the "Huanggang" warship.

As a new-generation guided missile frigate independently designed, developed and manufactured by China, the "Huanggang" warship, with a hull number of 577, has a maximum length of 140 meters, a width of 16 meters, and a full-load displacement of more than 4,000 tons.

As a new-generation main combat warship of the PLAN, this type of warship can attack enemy's surface vessels and submarines independently or by collaborating with other naval forces, and has a strong long-range vigilance and air defense combat capability.
