TAONAN, January 31 (ChinaMil) -- The curtain of the cross-service confrontation exercise launched by the Marine Corps of the Navy of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) came down in the Taonan Training Base, the PLA Shenyang Military Area Command (MAC), on January 30, 2015.

The confrontation exercise was conducted between the Marine Corps and a mechanized infantry brigade under the Shenyang MAC. After penetrating the outer defense of the brigade, the marines in combined assault groups, with the help of drones, launched attack at the position of the brigade in the hills.

The exercise aimed at testing the marines’ surviving and fighting capabilities in frigid areas and verifying the performance and practical effectiveness of the equipment in freezing weathers.

The first batch of the marines participating in the one-month-long winter training arrived at the Taonan Training Base on January 14 after a long-range maneuver crossing ten provinces with a distance exceeding 4000 kilometers, which started in Zhanjiang in south China’s Guangdong province and ended in Taonan in northeast China’s Jilin province.

The temperature in Taonan on Jan. 14 was -20℃ and the temperature difference between Zhanjiang and Taonan reached 40℃.

The winter training kicked off on January 16 with all the marines arriving at the training base.
