BEIJING, May 7 (ChinaMil) -- The Air Force of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) has spared no efforts to support the earthquake relief work in areas of China affected by Nepal earthquake and opened some military airports timely to facilitate the take-off and landing of rescue helicopters and transport aircraft, so as to ensure the smooth airlift of relief materials into Tibet, said Colonel Shen Jinke, spokesman for the PLA Air Force, in Beijing.

An 8.1-magnitude earthquake shook Nepal on April 25 and also affected the southwestern part of China's Tibet. After the earthquake, troops of the PLA Air Force stationing in Tibet started the emergency plan and opened relevant military airports timely to support the relief flights as far as possible.

In view of the complicated meteorological conditions above the plateau airports, Air Force weather observers made uninterrupted weather observations at airports and offered effective reference for quake-relief units with flying tasks.
