BEIJING, May 11 (ChinaMil) -- Chinese Defense Minister Gen. Chang Wanquan has urged related departments at all levels should adhere to the overall national security outlook and firmly push forward the reform and development of civil air defense.
Gen. Chang recently conducted investigations of the civil air defense work in the Heilongjiang, Jilin and Liaoning provinces in Northeast China. He also made a speech for the personnel attending a concentration training held by the National Civil Air Defense Office in Shenyang for the purpose of better implementing a document jointly issued by the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, the State Council and the Central Military Commission on promoting the reform and development of civil air defense.
The Chinese Defense Minister pointed out that civil air defense is a key component of national defense and an important aspect of the war preparedness adding that the civil air defense is a public welfare undertaking that benefits the nation and the people.
Related departments at all levels should enhance the IT-based systematic air defense and attach equal importance to city protection and protection of important economic targets, Gen. Chang said.
The Defense Minister also stressed that China's civil air defense course should adhere to the correct direction of military-civilian integrative development.
