China to establish national medal as highest honor

  BEIJING, August 25 (ChinaMil) -- The National Medal and National Honorary Title Draft Act was submitted to the Standing Committee of the NPC (the National People's Congress) for deliberation on August 24, 2015.

  According to the draft act, the national medal and national honorary title are established as the highest honor in China, and the feats book is set to record the names and feats of the recipients of the national medal and national honorary title.

  There are 21 regulations in the Draft Act specifying the recipients, nomination, decision, award procedure and revocation of the national medal and national honorary title.

  As for the recipients of the national medal and national honorary title, the Draft Act stipulates that the national medal is set for personages who have performed distinguished service in the socialism construction with Chinese characteristics, safeguarding the country and the national defense construction. The national honorary title is set for those who have made great contributions in various fields like economy, society, national defense, diplomacy, education, science and technology, culture, health and sports.

  The Draft Act has not listed specific name of the national honorary title, but stipulated the naming of the honorary title shall begin with "the People’s", which could be altered if necessary. The specific name will be confirmed by the Standing Committee of the NPC when making a decision to award someone the national honorary title.

  Besides, the Draft Act prescribes that the foreigners who have made great contributions in enhancing the socialism construction with Chinese characteristics, promoting exchange and cooperation between China and foreign countries and maintaining world peace will also be included in the candidates of the recipients of China's national medal.

  The national feats book is set to record the names and meritorious service of the recipients of the national medal and national honorary title. The medalists and honorary title owners deserve respect from the nation and the society and they enjoy the honor of being invited to the national celebration and other important festival rallies.
