BEIJING, August 25 (ChinaMil) -- The Marine Corps of the PLA Navy kicked off its first training exercise in mountainous jungle area code-named "Jungle- 2015" at a training ground under the PLA Chengdu Military Area Command (MAC) on the morning of August 23, 2015.
It was the third time for the PLA Marine Corps to carry out trans-MAC realistic training exercise after its training exercises in the Zhurihe Training Base of the PLA Beijing MAC and the Taonan Training Base of the PLA Shenyang MAC.
This training exercise will last until late September. The PLA Marine Corps will carry out training in subtropical mountainous jungle area on more than 30 subjects, including the fieldwork construction, fieldwork camouflage, reconnaissance, concealment, field survival, offensive and defensive tactics for battalions and companies, etc.
The Marine Corps will also conduct a confrontation drill with an armored brigade from the PLA Chengdu MAC and carry out a live-fire drill of tactical background during the “Jungle- 2015” training exercise.
The Marine Corps are faced with lots of challenges when conducting training exercise in mountainous jungles for the first time. The training ground at an altitude of over 2000m is covered with ravines and gullies as well as dense jungles, where the Marine Corps are easy to get lost.
Moreover, the lightning occurs frequently in this area, the air is damp and the roads are muddy. So, the Marine Corps have to take into account various factors during the training exercise, including mountain torrents, lightning, snakes and food poisoning, etc.
Zhang Chuanshu, commander of the training exercise and deputy chief of staff of the South China Sea Fleet of the PLA Navy, said that the training exercise was aimed to improve the PLA Marine Corps' capabilities of long-distance maneuver and all-regional combat.
