Chinese warships head for Egypt after Sudan visit

  PORT SUDAN, August 31(ChinaMil) -- The 20th escort taskforce of the PLA Navy wrapped up its friendly visit to Sudan on August 29, local time and left Port Sudan for Egypt, the second stop of its global voyage.

  The guided-missile destroyer Jinan, guided-missile frigate Yiyang and comprehensive supply ship Qiandaohu of the 20th Chinese naval escort taskforce handed over the merchant ship escort mission to the 21th escort taskforce in the Gulf of Aden and waters off the Somali coast and kicked off its global voyage on August 23.

  The three warships arrived in Port Sudan in the Republic of the Sudan, the first leg of its global port calls on August 25, local time, for goodwill visit.

  In the five-day visit in Sudan, the taskforce held warship open day, and deck reception. The Chinese naval soldiers visited the local orphanage, and held joint diving training, friendly football matches, and tug-of-war competitions with the Sudan naval servicemen.

  The military and political officials of Sudan spoke highly of this visit paid by the Chinese fleet, and believed that it is of great significance in pushing forward the relations between the armed forces, especially the navies of the two countries.
