China, Kazakhstan vow to boost military cooperation

  ASTANA, Oct. 13 (ChinaMil) -- Gen. Chang Wanquan, Chinese state councilor and minister of national defense, who is now visiting Kazakhstan, held talks with Defense Minister of Kazakhstan Imangali Tasmagambetov in Astana, capital of Kazakhstan, on Monday. The two defense ministers carried out in-depth exchange of views and reached extensive consensuses on the relations between the two countries and the two militaries as well as the international and regional issues of common concern.

  Tasmagambetov said that China is Kazakhstan’s important neighbor and close partner, Kazakhstan attaches great importance to developing the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries. The Kazakhstani military is grateful to the Chinese military for its assistance to Kazakhstan’s military development and is willing to strengthen multi-level exchange and cooperation with the Chinese side in various fields and make unremitting efforts for maintaining regional peace and stability, Tasmagambetov added. Gen. Chang said that China and Kazakhstan are friendly neighbors and comprehensive strategic partners. With the promotion of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Kazakhstani President Nazarbayev, political mutual trust and cooperation in various fields between China and Kazakhstan have reached the unprecedented high levels, he noted.

  The Chinese military attaches importance to developing friendly exchange and cooperation with the Kazakhstani military and is willing to work with the Kazakhstani side to resolutely implement the important consensuses reached by the leaders of the two countries, Gen Chang continued.

  The Chinese defense chief expressed that the Chinese military is willing to intensify exchange and cooperation with the Kazakhstani military in the areas of reciprocal group visits, military drills and exercises, personnel training and joint anti-terrorism operations; strengthen coordination and collaboration in the defense and security fields under the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), so as to make bigger contributions to the constant development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

  Before their talks, Tasmagambetov held a welcoming ceremony for Chang Wanquan and accompanied him to review the guard of honor of the Kazakhstani Armed Forces.

  People who were present at the above activities include Chinese Ambassador to Kazakhstan Zhang Hanhui, Gao Donglu, deputy political commissar of the Beijing Military Area Command (MAC) of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA), Li Wei, political commissar of the PLA Xinjiang Military Command (MC).

  Chang Wanquan and his entourage arrived in Astana on Oct. 10 to start an official visit to Kazakhstan.
