Chinese defense minister talks with Malian counterpart

BEIJING, Nov.17 (ChinaMil) -- Chang Wanquan, state councilor and defense minister of the People's Republic of China, held talks with Tiéman Hubert Coulibaly, the visiting defense minister of the Republic of Mali, in Beijing on November 16, 2015.

Chang Wanquan said that Mali is a trustable good partner and brother of China, and the long-lasting friendship between China and Mali has withstood the test.

Chang expressed that since the establishment of the diplomatic relations between China and Mali, the two sides have carried out good cooperation in various fields, and China firmly supports Mali’s cause of justice in safeguarding Mali’s national sovereignty, security and territorial integrity,

Chang stressed that in recent years, the two militaries have carried out fruitful and effective cooperation, and the Chinese armed forces will firmly implement the African policy concept of sincerity, real results, affinity and good faith proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping and will make efforts to promote long-lasting peace and stability in Mali together with the international community.

Coulibaly introduced relevant situations including Mali’s domestic political, economic and social development. He also spoke highly of the excellent performances of the Chinese peacekeeping forces to Mali and expressed his thanks to China’s long-term selfless assistance.

He emphasized that Mali and China have a time-honored history, and the Malian side is willing to continuously strengthen cooperation with China in peacekeeping and personnel training so as to constantly promote the existing friendly brother-like relations between Mali and China.

Before the talks, Chang Wanquan held a welcoming ceremony for Coulibaly and accompanied him to review the guard of honor of the three services of the Chinese PLA.
