Chinese defense minister talks with Ecuadorian counterpart

BEIJING, November 19 (ChinaMil) -- Chang Wanquan, state councilor and defense minister of the People's Republic of China, held talks with Fernando Cordero, the visiting Ecuadorian defense minister, in Beijing on the afternoon of November 18, 2015.

Chang Wanquan said that President Xi Jinping has met with President Rafael Correa twice since last year and jointly decided to establish a strategic partnership between China and Ecuador, writing a new chapter in the bilateral relations.

Chang expressed that as an important part of bilateral relations, the military-to-military relations between China and Ecuador have experienced greater development, with fruitful cooperation in such fields as logistics, medical treatment and personnel training. China is willing to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in military field with the Ecuadoran side and push the military-to-military relations to a new level, Chang added.

Cordero said that Ecuador attaches great importance to the Ecuador-China relations and will continue to firmly uphold the one-China policy.

He expressed that the military-to-military cooperation between Ecuador and China in the defense and military fields has been going on smoothly in recent years. Ecuador thanks the Chinese military for its help to the Ecuadorian army over the years and hopes that his visit can enhance and deepen the pragmatic exchanges and cooperation between both sides in each field.

Chang Wanquan held a welcome ceremony for Cordero and accompanied him to inspect the guards of honor of the three services of the Chinese PLA prior to the talks. Borja, the Ecuadorian Ambassador to China, attended the above activities.
