Chinese naval taskforce kicks off Pakistan visit

Pakistan Navy holds a welcoming ceremony for the visiting 21st Chinese naval escort taskforce in the Port of Karachi, Pakistan on Jan. 7, 2016. KARACHI, Pakistan, Jan. 8 (ChinaMil) -- The 21st escort taskforce of the Chinese PLA Navy, comprising the guided-missile frigates Liuzhou and Sanya and the comprehensive supply ship Qinghaihu, arrived in Karachi, Pakistan for a five-day goodwill visit on Jan. 7, 2016.

Pakistan Navy held a welcoming ceremony for the visiting Chinese naval taskforce, at which a military band played welcoming music and soldiers were seen carrying a banner with the words “Long Live Pak-China Friendship”. After the ceremony, the three Chinese naval ships were open to the public visit.

Karachi is the 1st leg of the six-Asian nations visit of the taskforce. While staying in Karachi, the commanding officers of the taskforce will visit the Pakistani naval fleet and coast guard headquarters, present wreath to the Tomb of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, come to a local school for exceptional children to greet the pupils there, visit Pakistan Navy's academies, port facilities and the command and control center.

The commanding officers of the taskforce and their Pakistani counterparts will also jointly meet the media.

The communication activities between the officers and men of the two navies include exchange of warship visit, joint training for special operation troops, interactions between young officers and football matches.

According to schedule, the taskforce will end its visit in Karachi on the morning of Jan. 11, and then hold a joint drill with Pakistan Navy out of the Port of Karachi on the same day. Its next destination is Sri Lanka.

The 21st Chinese naval escort taskforce departed from the Gulf of Aden on Jan. 3, 2016, local time, after completing its four month-long merchant ships escort mission in the Gulf of Aden and waters off Somali coast.
