GULF OF ADEN, Jan. 19 (ChinaMil) -- A ship-borne helicopter from the Chinese guided-missile frigate Daqing sent four Chinese naval officers to the frigate Carabiniere of the Italian Navy in the Gulf of Aden on Jan. 17, local time.
Upon invitation of the EU Combined Task Force 465 (EU CTF-465), Rear Adm. Chen Qiangnan, commanding officer of the 22nd Chinese naval escort taskforce, which is now performing merchant ships escort mission in the Gulf of Aden and waters off the Somali coast, met on Sunday with Rear Adm. Stefano Barbieri of the Italian Navy, who is the commanding officer of the EU CTF-465, on the Italian frigate Carabiniere, the flagship of the EU CTF-465.
This is the first time for the commanding officer of the 22nd Chinese naval escort taskforce to hold meetings with commanding officers of foreign navies in the Gulf of Aden.
Barbieri briefly introduced the EU CTF-465 first. The EU CTF-465 is willing to carry out effective cooperation with the Chinese naval escort taskforce to ensure the safety of the passing ships and the on-board personnel, Barbieri said.
Chen Qiangnan hoped that the Chinese naval escort taskforce and the EU CTF-465 can maintain the good cooperative relations and friendly contacts to constantly promote the mutual understanding and escort cooperation and exchange between the Chinese and EU navies.
