LEBANON, Jan. 20 (ChinaMil) -- On the early morning of Jan. 14, Sergeant Yang Ning and Corporal Deng Xun of the 14th Chinese peacekeeping engineer detachment to Lebanon started to fill fresh water into a water wagon. They would transport 10 tons of fresh water to a Lebanese army camp located on a hill before 9 am that day. The 10 tons of fresh water was the living water supply in the next two days for dozens of soldiers in the camp.
Due to poor infrastructure, getting sufficient living water has been a headache for the Lebanese Army units stationed in the mountainous area in southern Lebanon. Nevertheless, a deep water well in the camp of the Chinese peacekeeping force in Lebanon provides the Chinese peacekeepers with adequate fresh water of high quality.
Since deployed to the mission area in Lebanon in late May 2015, the 14th Chinese peacekeeping engineer detachment has taken over the ask from the 13th Chinese peacekeeping engineer detachment to deliver living water for the troops of the Lebanese army stationed in the mountainous area in southern Lebanon. Two Chinese peacekeepers will regularly send water to the Lebanese army camps every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
The water transportation mission is performed by the Chinese peacekeepers in all weathers without any interruption. The water from the Chinese peacekeeping detachment is called "water of happiness" by Lebanese soldiers.
The "water of happiness" also helps deepen friendship between the Chinese peacekeepers and the Lebanese army troops. Nowadays, Lebanese army would take the initiative to provide security escorts for Chinese peacekeepers performing minesweeping operations in the "Blue Line". It is estimated that the 14th Chinese peacekeeping engineer detachment has delivered over 1,200 tons of water for the Lebanese army troops.
