Chinese, Russian militaries hold strategic consultation in Beijing

BEIJING, May 25 (ChinaMil) -- The 18th round of strategic consultation between Chinese and Russian militaries was held in Beijing on May 24, 2016.

The consultation was co-chaired by Admiral Sun Jianguo, Deputy Chief of Joint Staff Department of China's Central Military Commission, and Lieutenant General Sergey Rudskoy, Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces and Chief of the Main Operative Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces. Both sides had in-depth exchange of views on issues including the current international and regional security situations, military reform, and bilateral military cooperation, and reached extensive consensus.

The pragmatic cooperation between the Chinese and Russian militaries has maintained a stable development momentum in recent years in fields of high-level reciprocal visits, joint exercise, and professional exchanges, and yielded remarkable results, Sun said.

The Chinese People's Liberation Army is willing to work with the Russian Armed Forces to expand cooperation area, and enhance strategic mutual trust to make new contributions to the development of China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation, Sun added.

The Russian and Chinese militaries have firmly implemented the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, and maintained close communication and coordination, Rudskoy said.

He spoke highly of the 18th round of strategic consultation by saying that the consensus reached at this round of strategic consultation will further upgrade the level of cooperation between the two militaries, and inject new impetus into the Russia-China comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation.
