BIJIE, July 1 (ChinaMil) -- After working for two consecutive nights, service members and reserve forces with the Bijie Military Sub-Command of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) have successfully rescued around 1,000 people trapped by floods in Qimo Town at Zhijin County of southwestern China's Guizhou Province on June 30, 2016.
Torrential rains have swept Zhijin County for days, causing landslides, traffic disruptions and dam failures in many villages and towns. Life and property of local people are seriously threatened.
On June 28, more than 1,000 people were trapped by floods in Qimo Town at Zhijin County as the water level continued to rise. After receiving the local government' s message seeking help, the Bijie Military Sub-Command immediately dispatched over 300 service members and reserve forces, carrying 10 large-scale rescue equipment, 150 life jackets, 6 steam boats and two kayaks to the scene for emergency rescue.
As of press time, service members and reserve forces have reopened more than 10 blocked roads, diverted 300 trapped vehicles, and eliminated over 100 dangerous cases.
