PEARL HARBOR, Aug. 5 (ChinaMil) -- Ships of the PLA Navy, which have completed the sea phase of Rim of the Pacific Exercise 2016 (RIMPAC), all anchored at the Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on Aug 3, local time, marking the conclusion of sea phase of RIMPAC 2016 participated by the PLA Navy.
The comprehensive supply ship Gaoyouhu, hospital ship Peace Ark, guided-missile destroyer Xi'an and guided-missile frigate Hengshui in the Combined Task Force 175 (CTF 175) gradually anchored in K8 and K7 peers of Pearl Harbor from 8:30 am, while the submarine rescue vessel Changdao of the CTF 173 has already berthed at that time.
The 23-day sea phase of RIMPAC 2016 started on July 12. Four Chinese naval ships formed the CTF 175 along with other six ships from the United States, France and Indonesia. They have successively completed drills on main gun firing, tracking and monitoring of merchant ships, VBSS (visit, board, search and seizure), anti-piracy, maritime search and rescue, damage control, logistics replenishment at sea, helicopter assault, fleet movement and other subjects.
In its debut of the drill, sailors aboard the Chinese submarine rescue vessel Changdao had in-depth exchanges with experts from the United States, Australia, Canada and other countries through tabletop exercise. They also carried out actual underwater docking, underwater salvage operations and other drills on the simulation platform.
Wang Sheqiang, commander of the Chinese naval fleet, said that "The sea phase shows the professionalism and the open and confident image of the Chinese navy. The drill has expanded visions and ideas of Chinese sailors. We have accumulated experience in international major naval exercises and multilateral cooperation and we also enhanced friendship and mutual trust with navies participating in the drill."
According to the schedule of RIMPAC 2016, all ships will attend the exercise summary and the closing ceremony later. The Chinese naval fleet will leave Pearl Harbor for home on Aug 5, local time.
