PLA Navy holds summer camp to attract top high school students

DALIAN, Aug. 5 (ChinaMil) --The opening ceremony of the first navy summer camp was held on the training ship Zhenghe in Dalian on Aug 1. The 144 campers came from 46 high schools around the country.

The one-week summer camp is the first of its kind held by the PLA Navy for excellent high school students nationwide.

The students had a sailing experience onboard the training ship Zhenghe from Aug 1 to 3. During the voyage, they manned the rail with sailors, observed naval vessels setting sail and learnt knowledge of tides and sea currents. They also visited the Museum of the Sino-Japanese War 1894-1895 and the Exhibition Hall of the Sino-Japanese War in 1894 situated on the Liugong Island, Weihai City in east China's Shandong province.

From Aug 4 to 7, the students are scheduled to visit the Naval University of Engineering, the Naval Aeronautical Engineering Institute and the PLA Dalian Naval Academy, where they will tour the campus, experience sampan and sailboat training, military psychological behavior training, swimming and lifesaving training.

In addition, personnel from the enrollment departments of the three naval higher learning institutions will have interactions with the students.
