MOSCOW, August 15 (ChinaMil) -- The International Army Games 2016 successfully came to an end at the Aabino Training Center in Moscow on the afternoon of August 13. The finals of two major events, Suvorov Attack and Tank Biathlon, were held that day.
The International Army Games 2016 consists of 23 contests including Tank Biathlon, Suvorov Attack, Aviadarts and Seaborne Assault, and teams from 18 countries participated in the contests. China sent teams to compete in 21 contests and won the first place in one contest, the second place in eighteen contests and the third place in two contests.
Yang Jian, head of the Chinese PLA delegation and leader of the commanding group, said in an interview that all Chinese teams have performed very well and demonstrated the achievements of Chinese military training and equipment construction over the past few years.
A grand closing ceremony was held after the competition. A number of PLA teams participating in the contests have already left for home via air and railway.
This year, foreign media have become more interested in the performance of Chinese soldiers and Chinese equipment during the press conferences and interview activities after each contest.
Even Russian visitors would often say: "Look, Chinese tanks are coming!" at the finals of Tank Biathlon contest.
Cao Hui, deputy director of the Military Equipment Research and Development Department of China North Industries Group Corporation, introduced that Tank Biathlon contest is a test for the extreme performance of tanks and the Chinese Type 96A tanks showcase its excellent performance.
Competing in a foreign country is not easy as there are challenges in language, environment and sudden change of rules. Li Yong, deputy military attaché of the Military Attaché Office of the Chinese Embassy in Russia, said that there have been many changes in contest setting and rules compared to that of the previous two years.
The difficulty of the games is significantly increased and it is the first international competition for many Chinese teams. Under such circumstances, the PLA achieved even more outstanding achievements, which fully demonstrates the level of Chinese military training, said Li.
The referee of the engineering contest said that the performance of Chinese soldiers impressed him a lot as Chinese soldiers tried their best in the competitions and also demonstrated good qualities in many other aspects.
The friendship between Chinese and foreign soldiers has been consolidated and developed during the games. The third day of the games was also China's Army Day, and on that day, Chinese soldiers have received different forms of congratulations from Russian organizers.
Yuri Stavitsky, commander of the Russian Engineering Troops, said that the communication between Russian and Chinese soldiers is the warmest communication.
Deputy commander of the Russian Airborne Forces said that Russian and Chinese airborne troops competed in the games today and they will go forward together for common development in the future.
Russia's Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said at the closing ceremony that he hopes the confrontation between different countries only happens in competition fields.
