ISLAMABAD, July 26 (Xinhua) -- At least two soldiers of Pakistani army were shot dead by unknown gunmen on Tuesday afternoon in the country's southern port city of Karachi, officials said.

The Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), Pakistani army's mouth piece, said that two army soldiers embraced martyrdom in a terrorist attack on a military vehicle which was on routine duty near the MA Jinnah Road area of Karachi.

The incident took place when two unknown gunmen riding on a motorcycle opened fire at the vehicle, which was moving beside a parking plaza near the road.

Additional Inspector General of Police in Karachi, Mushtaq Mahar, told media that a personnel of security forces was killed on the spot while the other sustained injuries and was taken to Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

According to an eyewitness, one of the attackers opened fire at the driver side of the vehicle with a pistol and they fled from the scene after the attack.

Personnel of security forces and police rushed to site and cordoned off the area and launched a search operation. Forensic officials also reached the spot and collected evidences.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.

Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif condemned the incident and instructed the intelligence and security agencies for immediate action against the perpetrators of the attack.
