BEIJING, July 13 (ChinaMil) -- The South China Sea arbitration unilaterally initiated by the Philippines finally came to an end, and the award was shocking and infuriating. The Chinese government and people resolutely object to it and will never recognize or accept it, and the Chinese military will staunchly defend its national sovereignty, security and maritime rights and interests, and firmly safeguard regional peace and stability and deal with all kinds of threats and challenges.
The so-called arbitration unilaterally initiated by the Aquino III administration was a political provocation cloaked in law, and the arbitral tribunal risked universal condemnation by rashly opening the court and making an arbitrary rule in total disregard of basic facts and laws.
But is the award going to deprive China of its land? Not in a million years.
South China Sea islands are Chinese territory since ancient times, and China's territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests will in no circumstance be affected by the award on the arbitration case.
Refusing to accept the arbitration in all confidence and righteousness is China's way of defending international laws because the arbitration is a farce from beginning to end.
The foundation of the arbitral tribunal is against the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, and it has no jurisdiction over the matters the Philippines filed the arbitration for because the arbitration is essentially a matter of territorial sovereignty and maritime delimitation, which doesn't fall under the scope of the Convention.
The arbitral tribunal expanded and abused its power at will, and proceeded with the arbitration anyway without having the mutual agreement of concerned parties, only to add trouble to the world and region.
Arbitration is no judiciary, arbitrators are no judges and arbitral rule is no judicial verdict. What secret goal exactly does this farce that is full of hegemony and manipulation want to achieve?
The arbitration unilaterally initiated by Philippine Aquino III administration called black white and tried to "legalize" China's Nansha Islands that it had illegally occupied. Adam Smith said in his The Theory of Moral Sentiments, "to take from him what is of real use to him merely because it may be of equal or of more use to us is what no impartial spectator can go along with".
As a contributor to international order and guardian of regional peace, China has always observed and defended the purport of the UN Charter and basic principles of international relation, safeguarded fairness and justice in international rule of law, and respected and exercised international laws.
China is a main contributor and sponsor to UN peacekeeping missions and 21 Chinese soldiers and policemen have devoted their lives while carrying out missions on foreign soils. Anyone with a conscience would be grateful for what China has done for world peace and development. How can someone slander it because of its contributions and virtue?
The illegal rule on the South China Sea arbitration initiated by the Philippines will cause very bad aftermaths and if the farce is taken as "legal", the world will know no peace.
Nations and territories, be they big or small, have all taken shape in history and no one should or can infringe upon other nation's territory in any way.
China's sovereignty and legal rights in the South China Sea have been gradually established over thousands of years when Chinese people exploited, operated and effectively administered the South China Sea region and fought against foreign aggressions there. Any attempt by anyone to take away the sacred territory left by our ancestors with a piece of paper will be doomed to failure.
The time when foreign aggressors could take land from China through unfair treaties is gone, and we will no longer swallow the bitter pill when others want to damage our sovereignty, security and development interests.
The Chinese nation believes in "harmony is most precious". China is committed to safeguarding peace and stability in the South China Sea and peacefully settling relevant disputes with directly concerned countries through negotiation and consultation on the basis of respecting historical facts and the international law.
Ever since 1995, China and the Philippines have reiterated their consensus in a number of bilateral documents and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in South China Sea. What the Aquino III administration did was a breach of faith. The arbitration farce will not affect China's policy and stance of settling disputes through direct negotiations.
But we will accompany our kind wishes with strong power. Chinese people have unswerving resolve to safeguard China's territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests, and Chinese military is implementing the strategy of strengthening itself through reform.
We won't be intimidated by anyone's muscle flexing and we are capable of dealing with all kinds of threats and challenges. We don't want an inch of land that's not ours, but we won't give up an inch that belongs to us. The Chinese military will staunchly defend our national sovereignty, security and maritime rights and interests and resolutely preserve regional peace and stability. Any attempt to infringe upon China's territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests will end up in failure.
