A serious coal mine flood accident occurred at the Daxing Coal Mine in
Xingning City of Guangdong Province on August 7. An estimated 15 million to 20
million cubic meters of water gushed into the shaft and 123 miners were trapped
underground. Upon receiving a notice of emergency rescue, the People's Armed
Forces Department of Xingning City immediately organized officers of the organ
and militia emergency elements to rush to the site where they assisted the local
government in the emergency rescue and disaster relief operations. For the past
several days, the PLA officers and militiamen have been working at the accident
site day and night to clear the roads, set up electricity wires, patrol the site
and stand sentry at the surrounding areas of the coal mine to maintain the
order, security and stability.
