In the past few days, a mountainous area on China's northwest plateau has
been hit by heavy snow. A special equipment transport regiment of the Secondary
Artillery Force (SAF) immediately took advantage of the weather condition to put
dozens of its heavy-duty vehicles through a number of drills, such as rapid
trans-shipment and environmental testing, etc. in maneuver. By adopting flexible
training methods, the regiment has enabled its troops to boost their all-weather
operational capability.
The reporter saw at the drilling site that a convoy of fully equipped
special equipment transport vehicles was moving sluggishly along a rugged
mountain road. Suddenly, dozens of special equipment transport vehicles at the
front came to a sudden halt due to "enemy" harassment. The commander promptly
activated the emergency operational plan to let the emergency anti-riot element
rush to the site to remove the obstacles.
When the convoy reached a certain mountain pass, a driver reported that the
chassis of his heavy-duty vehicle was seriously damaged by "enemy's" attack. The
commander immediately ordered the crane to lift the equipment shelter off the
damaged vehicle, and in less than 3 minutes, the equipment shelter weighing
several tons was firmly fastened onto another vehicle, and the convoy resumed
its journey.
In order to boost the mobile capability of its troops, the regiment takes
the special equipment transport training under various adverse natural
conditions, such as strong wind, heavy rain, heavy snow and thunderstorm, as
important contents of its special equipment transport training. By taking full
advantage of complex and changeable weather conditions in its stationed frigid
plateau area, the troops of this regiment have, through rigorous training, built
up the first-rate all-weather operational capability.
