On 30 June, a laser simulation confrontation exercise under hi-tech conditions was successfully staged at a training base of the Nanjing Military Area Command.

The base, which is the first among the combined tactics training bases established by the PLA, is called "quasi-battlefield" by the troops participating in this exercise. In order to meet the requirements of the information-based operations under hi-tech conditions, the base has strived to improve traditional training methods and means on the basis of summing up the experience of lifelike military exercises, made use of advanced computerized operational simulation system and laser analog simulation system to recreate real-life battlefield environment and organize troops to carry out analog simulation confrontation exercise covering the whole process of battles. According to the leaders of the base, the battlefield environment in this confrontation exercise is extremely tough while the combat atmosphere is truly lifelike, thus the fighting power of the participating troops has been boosted in an all-round way.
