On September 2, the Armed Force Jilin Forest Contingent held a
comprehensive firefighting exercise codenamed "Changbai No.1" in the immense
forest of the Changbai Mountains crisscrossed with gullies.
The contingent took its troops in their organic whole deep into the forest
where some 1,000 officers and men and 100-odd fire engines drilled their
firefighting skills under all possible forest fire scenarios. In this drill, the
contingent increased the proportion of firefighting technical and tactical
skills in the examinations and set 9 training subjects including forest fire
area reconnaissance, field medical rescue operation, and safety management. In
addition, it also let the training of firefighting methods and the firefighting
training methods run through the whole process of the drill. Besides, the drill
has been conducted with neither "well-crafted scripts, nor pre-set conditions
and preplans " and various ways and means have been adopted to simulate various
kinds of forest fires and firefighting scenes in order to test the feasibility
of various firefighting preplans, temper firefighters' psychological bearing
capacity and, integrate the training with actual forest firefighting operations.
In this mobile firefighting drill, this contingent has let its troops deal
with 30-odd possible emergencies, and through the drill, it has revised and
perfected 52 firefighting preplans and verified over 20 trans-regional
firefighting methods.
