BEIJING, Aug. 27 (Xinhuanet) --
China's leading newspaper, People's Daily, is to publish a commentator's article
Sunday, which calls for turning the great spirit of fighting Japanese aggression
against China during World War II into actions for national
rejuvenation. The article
says to mark the 60th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese people's in the
war of resistance against Japanese aggression, efforts should be concentrated on
building China into a relatively affluent society in an all-round
way. It describes the spirit
is the distillation of the patriotic spirit of the Chinese nation and the source
of power for the Chinese people to fight against violent repression and
humiliation imposed by foreign
invaders. The Chinese
people's war of resistance against Japanese aggression ended with the first full
victory the Chinese had won in their fighting against foreign invasions since
the modern times. It has become the major turning point of the Chinese nation
from decline to
rejuvenation. According to
the article, the Communist Party of China always stood in the frontline of the
war, was the mainstay leading the whole nation in fighting Japanese invaders,
made tremendous sacrifice for national dependence and the people's liberation,
and won the people's trust and
support. Under the Party's
leadership, the Chinese people founded the People's Republic of China four years
after the war, which created conditions for the great rejuvenation of the
nation, though it is certainly a long process of hard
struggle. "We have overcome
many difficulties and hardships, still there is a long way to go; we have
obtained great achievements, but the future task is more arduous," says the
article. It calls on the
Chinese people to carry forward the great spirit of fighting Japanese aggression
to seize opportunities and deal with challenges to boost development in the
first 20 years of this century, and settle various contradictions in the road of
development. To turn the
spirit into actions for national rejuvenation, the article says, it is important
to enhance the country's economic strength, unite all forces that can be united,
maintain national unity and social stability, safeguard the people's fundamental
interests, strengthen Party building and fight against corruption so that the
Party can lead the people marching toward the great goal. Enditem
