PLA Daily 2005-09-03

　　In commemoration of the 60^th anniversary of the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the PLA Daily carries an editorial today entitled "The Chinese Nation Is Invincible".

　　The editorial states that the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression is the greatest and the most heroic national liberation struggle in the modern history of China. In the face of the extremely vicious and cruel Japanese aggressors, the Chinese people wrote an epic of justice overwhelming the evils, brightness trumping the darkness, and the progressive forces defeating the reactionaries. It is a national liberation war in which the Chinese people won the first complete victory in their long struggles against foreign aggressions in the modern history of China, and marks an important turning point for the Chinese nation to rejuvenate from being on the wane. The great victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression has fully demonstrated that the Chinese nation with powerful vitality, cohesion and fighting capacity is invincible.

　　The editorial underlines that without the Communist Party of China (CPC), the awakening and vigorous rise of the Chinese nation and the formation of the anti-Japanese national united front would be out of the question, let alone the victory of the War of Resistance Againt Japanese Aggression. The Communist Party of China is not only the tower of strength in saving the nation from being perished in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, but also the mainstay of today's great national rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. Under the new historical situation, the people's army should, as always, stick to the principle of placing the armed forces under the absolute leadership of the CPC, unswervingly keep in line with the Central Committee of the CPC and stand firm in complying with the command of the Central Committee of the CPC, the Central Military Commission and Chairman Hu Jintao.

　　The editorial points out that patriotism has been and will remain the spiritual pillar and power source for the Chinese people to remain united and press forward. In the new historical phase of the new century, the people's army, shouldering new historical missions, needs more than ever to educate the officers and men with patriotism to regard the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation as their own task, take the fulfillment of the new missions as their bounden duty, translate the affection of patriotism into actions of loyal service to the nation and make due contributions to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and the modernization of the army.

　　In conclusion, the editorial says that a strong national defense is a reliable guarantee for safeguarding national sovereignty, security and territorial integrity. In the face of the complex and constantly changing international situation, the officers and men of the whole army must always bear in mind the historical experience and lessons, never for a second forget the historical missions entrusted on them, be firm and unflinching in promoting the modernization drive of the army and make all out efforts to build a mighty armed forces that matches China's international status and national development interests.
