First large vertical wind tunnel successfully completed in China
我国建成第一座大型立式风洞

  The first large vertical wind tunnel, designed and built independently by China itself, successfully completed its test run yesterday at an aerodynamic research base in the northwest of Sichuan Province. The completion of such a large vertical wind tunnel will further boost China's technical competence and testing capability in aerodynamic research.

  The overall height of the newly built vertical wind tunnel is 55 m, of which, the diameter of the testing segment is 5 m, and the maximum wind speed at the center of the tunnel is over 50m/sec. This new wind tunnel adopts advanced wind speed regulating technology in modern times to control the wind speed, and its overall technologies are in the lead of the world. The said tunnel will mainly be used to evaluate aircraft stalling/tail shaft performance, and to do complicated aerodynamic stability research in the recovery process of recoverable satellite and manned spacecraft as well as aerodynamic research in other related fields.

  In the design stage of this vertical wind tunnel, the aerodynamic research base made sure that the vertical wind tunnel to be built would be advanced in key technologies and its intellectual property rights would be possessed by China independently, so as to enable China to reach the world's advanced level as far as its research and testing capability in this field was concerned.

  Since China had only horizontal wind tunnels before, thus the completion of this vertical wind tunnel has not only filled in a blank in China's wind tunnel families, but also will play an important role in the development of China's national defense science and technology and national economic construction.

  本报成都9月19日电 周建君、记者赵波报道:我国自行设计建造的第一座大型立式风洞,今天在位于川西北的空气动力研究基地通气试车成功。它的建成,将进一步提高我国空气动力研究的试验能力和技术水平。

  新建成的这座立式风洞,总高55米,其中,试验段直径为5米,中心最大风速超过50米/秒。风洞采用现代先进调速技术实现风速控制,总体水平居国际领先地位。这座立式风洞投入使用后,主要用于飞机失速/尾旋性能评估、返回式卫星和载人飞船回收过程中复杂的空气动力稳定性研究,以及其它相关领域的空气动力研究。

  在这座立式风洞设计中,空气动力研究基地确保关键技术先进,充分拥有我国自主知识产权,使我国在这一领域的研究试验能力达到了世界先进水平。

  我国以前的风洞均为水平式风洞,这座立式风洞的建成,不仅填补了我国风洞家族中的空白,而且对我国国防科学技术的发展和国民经济建设将发挥重要作用。
