Sufficient importance should be attached to "information gap" on future battlefield

PLA Daily 2006-02-10

In the past wars, the gap existed at the junction point between the two neighboring troops (elements) was a typical weak point, which often became the focal point of enemy's attack. In the future information warfare, information, as a key factor for determining the outcome of a battle, also has the gap closely akin to the gap existed at the traditional junction point between the two neighboring troops, namely the areas from which we can't obtain information, for instance, the blind areas of reconnaissance and monitoring devices, etc. We should attach great importance to the "battlefield information gap", just as we did to the gap at the junction point between the two neighboring troops in the traditional battlefield, because information will play an increasingly important role in the future information warfare. With the existence of "information gap", it will be impossible for our troops to respond timely to the fast-changing battlefield situations, and will give the enemy an opportunity to take advantage of. Therefore, in order to make full use of enemy's "information gap" in the battlefield and prevent our "information gap" from being exploited by the enemy in future battlefield, we should, from now on, intensify the study on the "information gap", explore countermeasures, and make necessary preparations as early as possible.
