A quartermaster material E-business system, developed independently by a
shore logistics support department of a support base of the South China Sea
Fleet of the PLA Navy, was formally put into operation on January 31, by which
the materials support to ships has become swifter and more efficient.
At 9 o'clock on the morning of January 31, a frigate returning from a
training voyage pulled in to shore and dropped anchor in the harbor. Wang
Dongming, the supply chief of the ship, swiftly logged on the quartermaster
materials supply system to order staple and non-staple food enough for three
days' consumption of the officers and men on his ship. Before long, a provision
supply vehicle carrying the staple and non-staple food ordered by Wang Dongming
delivered the goods directly to the quay where the frigate had moored. The whole
process from the ordering and delivery of the staple and non-staple food to the
settlement of account lasted only 20 minutes. In the past it used to take no
less than 5 hours.
The shore logistics support department has actively explored the new
automatic support mode for quartermaster materials support, through which it has
developed the information-based quartermaster materials support system. In
addition, it has successfully developed the quartermaster materials E-business
system by integrating the daily life support information network of the troops,
the daily life service center sub-system and company mess management sub-system,
by which it has expedited the process of quartermaster materials procurement,
storage and settlement of account, thereby greatly raising the efficiency of
logistics support operations.
