Longest graded frontier defense highway in Tibet opens to traffic

english.chinamil.com.cn 2007-02-05

On the morning of February 1 , a truck fully loaded with rice, peanuts, bacon and other special purchases for the Spring Festival sped along a newly built asphalt road leading to the barracks of a frontier defense company in Tibet. As soon as it entered the barracks, the whole company was turned into a scene of jubilation. This means that, after two years of hard efforts under the support of the central government and the related departments of the PLA general headquarters/departments, this 83-kilometer-long graded highway, located in the southern part of Tibet, has been completed and opened to traffic.
