The "Shichang" ship of Dalian Naval Academy voyaged 24 days from September 16
to October 9 along the Chinese coastline , and those who involved in this
"Cultural Voyage Along 10,000 Li Coastline" were members of the naval
performing troupe who had participated in the just concluded PLA Amateur
Theatrical Festival. The ship sailed along the Chinese coast from Lushun in the
north to Guangzhou in the south, during which the performers gave performances
for and provided cultural service to the grassroots units in mountainous areas
and on islands. On this trip they visited 8 military ports to present a total of
38 shows to officers and men. In addition, they also trained cultural backbones
for the grassroots units. With its unprecedented large scale and long duration
as well as the great distance it traveled and extensive targets served, this
voyage has created a precedent for the naval amateur performing troupes to
conduct long-distance cultural service to troops along with naval ships. It has
also created a new cultural service record of the PLA Navy.
