Online shopping service for remote frontier companies in Xinjiang

english.chinamil.com.cn 2007-02-06

On January 26, when Dong Zhixiong, a mess officer of the Kurgan Frontier Defense Company under the Nanjiang Military Command, logged on the LAN of his regiment and then clicked on the icon of barracks supermarket on the navigating bar, a shopping plaza with a great variety of commodities immediately appeared on the computer screen. On the following day, the articles of daily use ordered by Dong via LAN were delivered to the sentry post.

The Kurgan Frontier Defense Company is stationed in the heart of the Tianshan Mountains where the altitude is some 3000m above sea level. It is about 200 km away from the regiment, thus it's very inconvenient for the officers and men of the company to buy articles of daily use. In order to solve this problem, the regiment makes use of its newly opened LAN to open an online supermarket. Nowadays, if the officers and men want to buy something, they need only click the computer mouse on the commodities they wish to buy, and then type their units, their names and the quantity of commodities they need to buy on the notice board before they transmit their orders to the regiment procurement center via computer.
