150,000 retired military cadres transferred to local governments for placement

english.chinamil.com.cn 2007-02-08

Yesterday afternoon, the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the PLA General Political Department and the Beijing Municipal Government jointly extended greetings and presented consolation money to the representatives of the retired military cadres who have been transferred to the Beijing Municipal Government for retirement placement. According to sources, since the establishment of military cadre's retirement system in 1958, the PLA has transferred more than 150,000 retired military cadres to local governments for retirement placement.

In recent years, thanks to the common efforts of the related military and civilian departments, the work of transferring retired military cadres to local governments for retirement placement has sped up, as evidenced by increased number of transferred military retired cadres each year. Last year alone, over 21,000 retired military cadres were transferred to local governments for retirement placement, a historic breakthrough in this respect. So far more than 2,500 homes (service stations) for retired military cadres have been established across the country, thus a support system with state support as the main body and service management institutions as the carriers has come into shape, and the retired military cadres can be guaranteed to spend their remaining years in peace under care of these homes (service stations).
