Leaders of Ministry of Civil Affairs extends Spring Festival greetings to PLA and Armed Police Force

  For days running, Li Xueju, minister of the Ministry of Civil Affairs, has led a visiting group to convey Lunar New Year greetings and appreciation to the officers and men of the PLA and the Armed Police Force, which took them to the four general headquarters/departments, various services and arms of the PLA and the Armed Police Force.

  In turn, Li Jinai, member of the Central Military Commission and director of the General Political Department of the PLA, Chen Bingde, member of the Central Military Commission and director of the General Armaments Department of the PLA as well as the leaders of the four general headquarters/departments of the PLA, various services and arms and Armed Police Force expressed their gratefulness to the Party committees and the local governments at various levels as well as the public for their concern about and support to the army building.

  According to Luo Pingfei, deputy minister of the Ministry of Civil Affairs, new accomplishments have been made nationwide in the "Double Supports" (support the army and give preferential treatment to the families of the servicemen and martyrs and support the government and cherish the people) work in 2006: 20,000 odd military personnel were trained for the army by the local organizations throughout the country, 1,000-plus hard-nut scientific and technological problems ran into in military training and exercises were answered with the help of the local organizations, more than 600 technological innovations were made for the army, over 20 million books and 6,000 computers and TV sets were donated to the troops and 120 million yuan were spent for building libraries for the military.

  On their part, the PLA and the Armed Police Force successively helped to build over 30,000 projects such as water-efficient irrigation projects in the rural areas. They also raised over 57 million yuan to build 112 "August 1 Cherishing-the-People Schools". In addition, they provided aid in the construction of 180-odd key projects including the Qinghai-Tibet Railway, and sent over 180,000 person/times of military personnel to help the local governments to fight against natural disasters.
