BEIJING, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- China's Minister of Public Security Zhou
Yongkang on Wednesday called for better application of science and technology in
maintaining public security.
Zhou said at a conference on safety science and technology that the
application of science and technology are key to building a harmonious society.
He said the police department should apply new technologies in every aspect
of their work, to improve their ability to better safeguard public security.
He said the police department should increase investment in science and
technology research, especially on those concerning emergency management and
individual identification.
Luo Gan, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the
CPC Central Committee and head of the country's political and legislative
affairs, met the representatives attending the conference.
Xu Guanhua, Minister of Science and Technology, said earlier Wednesday that
the Ministry of Science and Technology will invest 200 million yuan (about 25.6
million U.S. dollars) in three years for technology research for the public
security sector.
