Liang Guanglie, member of the Central Military Commission and chief of
general staff of the PLA, met with Air Chief Marshal Sir Glenn Torpy, chief of
air staff of the British Royal Air Force, and his party in Beijing yesterday.
Liang Guanglie noted that China and the U.K. are both major influential
countries in the world and the ties between the two countries have never been as
good as they are today, and he expressed his belief that the friendly
cooperative relations between the two countries will be better and better in the
midst of their common efforts to maintain world peace, stability and
development. The relations between the two militaries, as an important part of
the relations between the two countries, have also witnessed steady development
in recent years, as evidenced by frequent exchange of high-level visits, steady
increase of personnel training and exchange in specialized and technological
fields. Liang indicated that the Chinese side is willing to work together with
the British side to further promote the exchanges and cooperation between the
two militaries at various levels and in various fields so as to constantly push
the relations between the two militaries to a new high. He also briefed his
guests on the development of the PLA, etc.
Torpy said that China is an important country in the world; the friendly
cooperative relations between the U.K. and China are of great significance
towards world peace and stability. The British side hopes to further strengthen
exchange and cooperation with the Chinese armed forces, which includes the
exchange and cooperation not only between the two air forces, but also between
the two armies.
