Afghan, NATO forces kill 30 Taliban insurgents

  KABUL, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- Afghan troops backed by NATO forces have eliminated 30 Taliban fighters in Afghanistan's southern Uruzgan province, provincial police chief Juma Gul Humat said Monday.

  "Troops came in contact with Taliban insurgents in Khurma village out of provincial capital Trinkot Sunday night and the troops called in aircrafts," Humat told Xinhua. "As a result 30 militants were killed and their bodies are stilly lying on the ground."

  Only one soldier and two policemen were injured in the incident, he said.

  More than 5,300 people, mostly insurgents, have been killed so far this year in war-torn Afghanistan.
