  BEIJING, March 9 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese political advisor urged Sunday the country's courts to trim the scale of their judge contingent while raising the standard of professionalism.

  Meanwhile, courts should increase salary and improve welfare for high-calibre judges who have been frequently reported to resign and become high-income lawyers, said Wu Zhengde, vice chairman of the Central Committee of the China Democratic League. Full story

  BEIJING, March 9 (Xinhua) -- A member of China's top political advisory body has proposed that the eighth of August be instituted as the National Sports Day to commemorate the Beijing Olympic Games.

  BEIJING, March 9 (Xinhua) -- A national committee for the protection of minors is necessary to better protect children's rights and interests, as millions of rural children are left behind by parents who seek jobs in the cities, said a political advisor here on Sunday.

  Political advisor calls for more support to "cultural symbolic city"

  BEIJING, March 9 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese political advisor has called for more support to a cultural symbolic project in the ancestral homes of Confucius and Mencius to make it a cultural "holy land" and "spiritual home" of the Chinese nation.
