For days in a row, Guo Boxiaong, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and vice chairman of the Central Military Commission, has been making inspection rounds in rain in quake-hit areas, including Dujiangyan, Shifang, Mianzhu and Beichuan, making on-the-spot inspections of the disaster situation, directing the troops in doing disaster relief, inspiring the officers and men's morale and expressing sympathy and solicitude for the people afflicted by the earthquake.

Guo Boxiong stressed that the troops participating in the disaster relief should resolutely implement the decisions and instructions of the CPC Central Committee and President Hu Jintao, carry forward the army's fine traditions of obeying the CPC's command, serving the people and being valiant and skillful in fighting, and go all out in disaster relief in the spirit of defying hardships and dangers to fulfill the tasks entrusted by the Party and the people.

On the morning of May 13, Guo Boxiong rushed to the disaster area to inspect and supervise the disaster relief work. Guo Boxiong pointed out this earthquake was the worst one after the earthquake of Tangshan in 1976, the disaster-relief troops must race to the disaster relief sites as quick as possible, improve the rescue methods and raise the disaster relief efficiency.

Guo Boxiong also emphasized that the earthquake disaster relief is the most urgent and important duty facing the army now. All the disaster-relief troops should successfully accomplish the task of disaster relief, justify the great trust and live up to the expectation in fulfilling the missions. The entire armed forces should be mobilized to support and help the people in the disaster areas in various ways and make due contributions to the disaster relief.

Ge Zhenfeng, deputy chief of general staff of the PLA, and Wang Guanzhong, director of the General Office of the Central Military Commission, as well as other leaders accompanied Guo Boxiong in the tour.
