ISLAMABAD, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan is positive in contributing troops in the United Nations Darfur peacekeepers, a military spokesman said here on Thursday.

"The United Nations has also approached Pakistan for contribution in a new peacekeeping mission in Darfur and we would actively participate in it," said military spokesman Major General Athar Abbas.

Ababs made the remarks while attending a seminar marking the 60th anniversary of U.N. peacekeeping and International Day of UN peacekeepers

Pakistan is the largest contributor to peacekeeping operations including civilian police, military observers and troops, said a press release from U.N. Information Centre.

Abbas said 98 soldiers have died and 93 wounded while serving under the flag of the United Nations.
