BEIJING, June 24 (Xinhua) -- A group of Chinese and foreign military experts attended a two-day symposium here, discussing the role of the armed forces in dealing with terrorism threats, radical religious groups and natural disasters.

The symposium was held at the National Defense University of China in the western suburbs of Beijing and ended today. Among the participants were 131 foreign army officers and Chinese military personnel, experts and scholars.

Over the past two days, they shared their views on the mission and function of armed forces in non-traditional security, the principles and patterns of the use of armed forces in non-traditional security, relations between non-traditional security and army, and non-traditional security and international military cooperation.

The university is the top military academy in the country. Since 2001, the university has organized seven international seminars on major international issues.
