Liao Xilong urges to boost military support outsourcing reform

english.chinamil.com.cn 2008-09-18

The Military Logistics Support Outsourcing Leading Group held its 4th meeting in Beijing yesterday. Liao Xilong, member of the Central Military Commission, head of the General Logistics Department of the PLA and also head of the leading group attended and addressed the meeting.

Liao stressed at the meeting that, as one of the essential reform missions at the present, great attention should be attached to the promotion of logistics support outsourcing work. It is a hard task of great significance to build up a support system featuring integration of military and civilian sources so as to realize the reform goal in the "Eleventh Five-year Plan" period made by the Central Military Commission.

To reach the goal, a new-type support outsourcing system adaptable to the development of socialist market economy should be established as soon as possible, said Liao.

Liao required the logistics departments at different levels of the PLA to take the reform as their responsibility and uplift quality of support operations, and be fully aware that the support outsourcing is not only a must to follow the new trend of reforms in world military affairs but also a objective need to fulfill diversified military tasks.

The victories achieved by the troops in fighting against snow chaos in early months and the Wenchuan earthquake in May of this year have confirmed the irreplaceable role of the military support outsourcing no matter in wartime or in peacetime, said Liao.
