english.chinamil.com.cn 2008-11-18

The training center for public health officers under the Shenyang Military Area Command has a special instructor team, which is composed of 28 medical support non-commissioned officers, and people jokingly call them "NCO professors".

After the Dalian Medical College was dissolved in 2002, the Shenyang Military Area Command decided to retain all its teaching resources and 10% of its teachers to establish a training center for public health cadres. Its new mission is to offer medical skill training to medical non-commissioned officers and orderlies of the field combat troops and border and coastal defense forces. As a result, a batch of non-commissioned officers mount the teaching platforms to give lectures.

In order to foster a teacher's contingent made up of non-commissioned officers who are able to do teaching as well as training, this center held training courses and examinations for non-commissioned officers to constantly build up their academic skills. It also sent outstanding NCO-turned teachers to pursue advanced studies in other colleges and universities.

At present, six of the 28 non-commissioned-officer-turned teachers have obtained bachelors' degree in medicine, 17 obtained the diploma of junior medical college, five passed the examination of practicing doctor's qualification, and 100% of them got professional qualification certificates of disinfectioner, epidemic prevention worker and massager.
