The Seminar on PLA Medical Support in Earthquake Rescue and Relief Work was
held in Beijing from November 14 to 15.
It attracted more than 170 representatives from the medical setup of the
PLA and the Armed Police Force. After summing up the medical support experience
in the rescue and relief operations after the Wenchuan earthquake, the
participants reflected over seriously the problems discovered in the medical
support process of quake relief operation, including the problems existed in
command and coordination, division of scope of responsibilities, and exchange of
information, etc. And they also discussed in a deep-going way the methods and
measures to further enhance the medical support capability of the PLA in
military operations other than war (MOOTW).
Representatives from 19 PLA units who had made outstanding achievements in
the quake rescue and relief work, including the Medical Department of the Joint
Logistics Department under the Chengdu Military Area Command, the PLA General
Hospital, the Third Military Medical University and the Academy of Military
Medical Sciences, spoke at the seminar to share their experience with others.
Wang Qian, deputy director of the General Logistics Department of the PLA,
and Ma Xiaowei, vice minister of the Ministry of Health of the PRC, also
attended the seminar.
