The Central Military Commission (CMC) conferred the first-class collective
merit upon an installation regiment of the Engineering and Technical Contingent
of the Second Artillery Force (SAF) recently. The victory meeting was held on
May 13 in the Engineering and Technical Contingent.
Jing Zhiyuan, member of the Central Military Commission and commander of
the SAF, read out the circular order of conferring collective first-class merit
upon the regiment signed by Hu Jintao, chairman of the Central Military
Commission, awarded the certificate of merit and gave a speech.
After the happening of the Wenchuan earthquake in 2008, the officers and
men of the regiment rush-repaired 17 km power circuit in Hanwang Town, Mianzhu
City in 4 hours and resumed the emergent power supply of 3 rescue and treatment
centers in Mianzhu City in just 6 hours, saving precious time for rescuing more
than 2,000 severely-wounded people.
The officers and men of the regiment saved 6 local people stranded in deep
mountains for 5 consecutive days and nights at the risk of their own lives. They
rebuilt the damaged power grid in Hanwang, Dongbei and Jiulong towns, resumed
nearly 20,000 m of water and gas supply trunk pipelines, and restored the
automatic monitoring system of the Jiannanchun Group and the internal network
system of the Mianzhu Bureau of Public Security.
