Retired officers sing chorus to mark Deng Xiaoping's centennial birthday

  "Eternal Memory-Chorus by Retired Officers in Beijing to Mark 100th Anniversary of Deng Xiaoping's Birth" was held in the auditorium of the PLA General Logistics Department on August 17. The loud and ringing songs expressed affectionate reminiscence of Comrade Deng Xiaoping, the great man of the century by the retired officers.

  More than 800 retired officers from 11 units including the four general headquarters/departments, the PLA Navy, the Air Force, the Second Artillery Force, the Academy of Military Sciences, the National Defense University, the Beijing Military Area Command and the General Office of the Central Military Commission, etc. joined in the chorus, and many of them had fought battles throughout the length and breadth of the country along with Comrade Deng Xiaoping and devoted their youth to the liberation cause of the Chinese nation.

  Twenty-two songs, including The Baise Uprising, Come to Wuqi Township, On the Taihang Mountains, The Story in Spring and Marching into a New Era, were sung by the retired officers in praise of the outstanding contributions of Comrade Deng Xiaoping to the motherland and the Chinese nation at different historical periods, and in their admiration of the cause of socialist construction, and the reform and opening-up. It took more than 3 months for these retired officers to rehearse the chorus.
