PYONGYANG, Aug. 4 (Xinhuanet)-- The Democratic People's Republic of
Korea (DPRK) said on Monday that the six-party talks on settlement of the
nuclear issue would soon be held in Beijing.
"The Six-party talks for a solution to the nuclear issue between the
DPRK and the US will be held in Beijing soon thanks to the former's
initiative and peaceful efforts," a DPRK Foreign Ministry spokesman was
quoted as saying by the Korean Central News Agency.
Besides the DPRK and the United States, the six parties also include
China, South Korea, Russia and Japan.
The DPRK put forward a bold proposal at the recent DPRK-US contacts
in New York for starting a six-party talks in Beijing and holding
bilateral talks within their framework, which is an expression of the
DPRK's "utmost magnanimity" to solve the nuclear issue peacefully through
dialogue, the spokesman said.
He said that the United States agreed to the DPRK's proposal and
proposed to have DPRK-US contacts within this multilateral framework, at
which the two sides will clarify each other's stand and discuss the issue.
"The forthcoming talks will clearly show the world community whether
the US has a true willingness to make a switch-over in its policy toward
the DPRK,"the spokesman added.
The DPRK expressed its willingness to have bilateral talks with the
United States within a six-party multilateral framework on Friday.
